The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC) in Mülheim an der Ruhr studies fundamental chemical processes for energy storage in chemical molecules. The Department for Electrosynthesis of Prof. Dr. Siegfried R. Waldvogel is working toward greener production processes as well as new screening and optimization strategies.

For work in our laboratories in Mülheim an der Ruhr, we are looking for a Master’s Student (f/m/d) - Automation and Machine Learning in Electrosynthesis.

The position is available immediately and is initially limited to six months, with the possibility of extension within a follow-up project.

Your task

  • Design and construction of a continuous flow setup for electrochemical reactions
  • Developing a user interface for self-learning optimization campaigns
  • Interface role to other sub-projects of the cluster and preparation of their results for the own sub-project
  • Information and communication within the project

Your Qualifications

  • Completed a Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or engineering with a focus on (organic) chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, or process engineering
  • Enrollment in a Master’s program at a German university or university of applied sciences is required
  • Preferably relevant work experience in the fields of chemistry, physics, or engineering
  • Experience in dealing with instrumental analytics, analysis and interpretation of big data sets, as well as simulation and programming, is advantageous
  • Teamwork, good communication and presentation skills
  • Very good knowledge of the English language (spoken and written) is necessary. Basic knowledge of German is an advantage

We are looking for a self-motivated personality with independent, target-oriented, and systematic operation. High degrees of self-initiative, creativity and collaborative skills are prerequisites.

Our offer

We offer an international and dynamic working environment at a renowned research institute. Compensation for students holding a Bachelor’s degree is €15.61 per hour. Working hours are up to 20 hours per week.
