BITA is a Fintech company with the mission of disrupting the index and systematic investment industry. Through advanced software, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and high-quality data, we empower our clients to develop innovative investment products faster, more flexibly, and at a lower cost. We are a young and dynamic team of more than 60 people located across the world unified by a strong belief that the investment industry is ready for a new challenger.

We are looking for an Index Reference Data Intern who is interested in financial markets, data management, and index infrastructure to support our reference data management activities within BITA’s index production environment. In this role, you will gain hands-on exposure to the lifecycle of financial data management while supporting real business initiatives and working closely with experienced team members across the organisation. Your work will involve securities master data, instrument identifiers, corporate actions, pricing and vendor data, and other financial metadata used to support index calculation and product workflows. You will also gain exposure to datasets and identifiers such as ISIN, CUSIP, SEDOL, FIGI, issuer hierarchies,

listing states, NAV, and pricing sources.

You will work directly with the Product Development, Operations, and IT teams to help us maintain and improve the quality and scalability of our data infrastructure and index products. You will collaborate in a flat and flexible structure, with an international employee base working from different locations and a Product Development Team based in Frankfurt am Main.

Responsibilities:

  • Reference Data Integration – Support the ingestion, validation, and maintenance of reference datasets (e.g., instrument identifiers, issuer data, corporate actions, pricing sources) used in index calculation.
  • Data Analysis & Quality Assurance: Conduct data analysis and investigate anomalies, inconsistencies, or quality issues across internal and external datasets.
  • Reference Data Process Support: Assist with monitoring and improving data ingestion, normalisation, and operational workflows to ensure high-quality and reliable data production.
  • Market & Data Research: Research financial instruments, market data sources, and data structures to support product development initiatives and ongoing enhancements.
  • Documentation: Prepare clear and structured documentation of data processes, validation procedures, and operational workflows.
  • Support Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate closely with Product Development, IT, Operations, and Research teams to support data-related projects and implementations.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to automation and process optimisation initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing manual effort.
  • Reporting & Presentations: Assist in preparing internal reports, presentations, and supporting materials for stakeholders and client-related discussions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or equivalent degree.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with experience handling large datasets and conducting structured analysis.
  • Technical Affinity: Ability to learn and work with new software tools, systems, and data platforms.
  • Financial Knowledge: Good understanding of financial markets, financial instruments, and reference data concepts (e.g., ISIN, CUSIP, SEDOL, corporate actions). Familiarity with index concepts is preferred.
  • Proactive Attitude: High work initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn about financial data and product development processes.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous and detail-oriented approach, particularly when performing data analysis and validation tasks.
  • Communication Skills: Fluent in English. Ability to communicate findings and concepts clearly in written and verbal form.

Nice to Have:

  • Basic knowledge of SQL, Python, or similar analytical/programming tools
  • Previous experience in the financial services industry
  • Familiarity with data quality assurance or data management processes
  • Interest in financial data infrastructure and index products
