Beschreibung bereitgestellt von VÆRIDION
Your mission
We are developing a next-generation electric aircraft propulsion system. Accurate real-time knowledge of the battery’s accessible energy, state of charge (SoC), state of health (SoH), and remaining useful energy is safety-critical for flight planning, in-flight energy management, and certification. As a Working Student for Electric Aircraft Propulsion Battery State Observation, Estimation and Prediction, you will join the VÆRIDION Technology team and be highly involved in the development and validation of battery state observers and predictors for our lithium-ion propulsion battery systems. This is a hands-on role combining modeling, simulation, algorithm development, and data analysis in a safety-critical aerospace environment.Your work will directly contribute to the development of the high-voltage battery system at the core of VÆRIDION’s electric propulsion architecture and its compliance with key aerospace standards.
Your Day-to-Day
- Adapt and simulate equivalent-circuit models of propulsion battery cells and packs, including thermal, aging, and hysteresis effects
- Develop, implement, and validate battery state estimation algorithms, e.g., Kalman filters(EKF/UKF/SKF), PF, observers, or data-driven methods for SoC, SoH, and other states of function
- Develop, implement, and validate state predictors for remaining flight time or other indicators
- Ensure algorithms align with ED-289 requirements for state observers/predictors and ED-309 methodologies for energy level information to the crew (pre-flight planning and in-flight prediction)
- Analyze data from virtual and physical battery test benches or hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) setups
- Support integration of estimator and predictor functions into real-time battery management software
- Document methods and validation results
- Collaborate with systems engineers, embedded software engineers, and test teams
Your profile
- Enrolled in a Master’s program in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Control Engineering, or a related field
- Background in control theory, state estimation(Kalman filtering, observers), or system modeling
- Programming skills in Matlab/Simulink and optionally C/C++
- Knowledge of battery technology(lithium-ion electrochemistry, equivalent circuit models, aging mechanisms) and battery management is a strong plus
- Experience with real-time simulation, HiL testing, or embedded systems is a plus
- Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and ability towork independentlyon sub-tasks
- Ability to document technical work clearly

About us
VÆRIDION is a fast-growing deep tech start-up based in Munich, Germany. Since the restrictions by law on CO2 emissions for domestic and short-haul air travel will stimulate Green Regional Air Mobility, we believe it's our mission to provide an aircraft for Zero emission regional flights. At VÆRIDION our goal is to develop, build and certify a full electric microliner carrying up to 9 passengers for Short-Haul and Regional Air Mobility by 2030. A full electric microliner is cleaner and cheaper to operate than other aeroplanes in its class, it provides a better travel experience door to door up to 500 km. We offer new optimized design based on proven principles, around proven and available technology in electric motors and batteries, that brings lowest risk and shortest route to certification.
