The Opportunity
To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a motivated PhD student to join our Research team for 3 months in 2026. We seek students who, ideally, are nearing the completion of their Master’s or PhD and have a background in natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL). The internship has flexible start dates in summer.
This intern will contribute to multiple areas of challenging problems in the world of modern LLMs, including writing assistance, personalization, AI detection, and many others. Our Research team actively publishes in leading journals and participates in conferences, all while creating the next generation of features and product offerings for tens of millions of daily active users.

Role
As an Applied Research Intern, you will help tackle some of Superhuman’s biggest research challenges. In this role, you will:
- Work on an end-to-end research challenge that directly relates to your team’s high-level goals.
- Partner with a mentor to scope, design, and execute on a fully formed project over the duration of your internship.
- Collaborate with a strong team of professionals from whom you can learn from daily.
- Develop state-of-the-art tools for correcting, improving, and enhancing written English using modern LLMs.
- Produce sound experimental results to enable decision-making as we iterate on projects.
- Be results-oriented in the face of ambiguous problems and uncertain outcomes.
- Is available for the entire duration of a twelve-week program.
- Is currently enrolled in and near completion of a Master’s or PhD in natural language processing, machine learning, and deep learning, or a related field.
- Has have strong research skills, with a track record of publications in NLP, ML, DL or related fields
- Is proficient in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills, especially as it relates to technical collaboration.

Wochenstunden
Praktika haben keine 20-Stunden-Grenze, ein freiwilliges Praktikum über drei Monate muss aber in der Regel mindestens den Mindestlohn zahlen. Pflichtpraktika im Studium sind davon ausgenommen.
Werkstudenten-RegelnSozialabgaben
Pflichtpraktika sind weitgehend von Sozialabgaben befreit. Freiwillige Praktika gelten ab einer gewissen Dauer als reguläre Beschäftigung, dann fallen meist Beiträge an.
Versicherung prüfenInternationale Studierende
Studierende von außerhalb der EU dürfen 140 volle oder 280 halbe Tage im Jahr arbeiten (seit März 2024, zuvor 120/240). Ein Werkstudentenvertrag passt meist in diesen Rahmen — prüfe die genauen Grenzen auf deinem Aufenthaltstitel.
