Job description

Your mission

We are looking for a motivated student to support research and development activities in the field of carbon-based 2D materials for advanced battery applications. This role is ideal for a Master’s student in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field who is interested in gaining hands-on experience with next-generation lithium-sulfur battery technology.

The student will support the synthesis, modification, exfoliation, coating, and characterization of carbon-based 2D materials. The work will focus on integrating these materials into porous and non-porous structures to improve the mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of battery-relevant components.

The successful candidate will work closely with scientists and engineers in a multidisciplinary R&D environment and contribute to the development of theion’s core lithium-sulfur battery technology.

Your tasks

  • Support laboratory experiments related to the synthesis, functionalization, and exfoliation of carbon-based 2D materials.
  • Assist in coating 2D nanomaterials onto or into porous and non-porous substrates, including support for electrophoretic deposition-based techniques.
  • Help prepare samples for integration with battery-relevant materials and structures.
  • Analyze experimental data under supervision and summarize results in technical reports or presentations.

Your profile

Absolute Must-Haves

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related discipline.
  • Strong interest in carbon materials, 2D materials, nanomaterials, coatings, or battery technology.
  • Basic laboratory experience in materials synthesis, sample preparation, coating processes, or characterization.
  • Fluent in speaking English – our company language is English, incl. all the internal communication and meetings.

Good-To-Haves

  • Familiarity with at least one material characterization method, such as SEM, Raman spectroscopy, XPS, optical microscopy, conductivity measurements, or related techniques, is beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of material properties such as electrical conductivity, thermal behavior, mechanical properties, or surface chemistry.
  • Ability to follow experimental protocols and work carefully in a laboratory environment.
  • Good documentation, data organization, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
