Tesla’s drive unit development team is looking for skilled and motivated mechanical engineering students to push the power electronics, motors and geartrains propelling our vehicles to the next level. The team is presently working to improve the current - and design the next - generation of drive units and is looking for students aspiring to grow technically and personally while contributing to projects that are critical to the team’s success. It's an exciting work environment with plenty of engineering resources and bright colleagues to collaborate with. As an industry leading company, Tesla offers the opportunity to work on bleeding edge technology in a fast paced, dynamic, and high visibility role.

What You'll Do

  • Design and 3D modeling of mechanical components and assemblies including plastics, sheet metal, insulation systems, and other components.
  • Develop test fixtures and engineering test plans for components design validation.
  • Create drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies.
  • Investigate design and production problems and implement creative solutions.

  • What You'll Bring

  • B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, or the equivalent in experience, and evidence of exceptional ability.
  • Understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals (heat transfer, statics, dynamics).
  • Experience using 3D mechanical design and analysis tools (CATIA V5 and/or V6, ANSYS).
  • Proven interest in mechanical design engineering through extracurricular activities and projects.
  • Familiarity in a programming language such as Python or MATLAB.

  • Additional Preferred Skills

  • Experience designing and building mechanical assemblies.
  • Basic understanding of multi-physics interactions (mechanical, electrical, magnetic, thermal).
  • Knowledge of materials used in electronics packaging (metals, insulators, plastics, connectors, gaskets, thermal interface materials, etc.).
  • Experience using GD&T to control part features.
