What To Expect
Duration: min. 6 months

Time type: Full Time

Start date: Flexible

Tesla is seeking highly motivated engineering students who thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to apply mechanical concepts to real world projects. Our team drives collaboration with many engineering groups - team players only. Tesla moves quickly, so being self-motivated and disciplined is critical. You must be passionate, but direction changes quickly, so you must also be resilient. As an intern you will work directly with full-time engineers to design, prototype, test and launch new parts and processes to improve our batteries. Our projects include advanced cooling systems, cell interfaces and high voltage distribution. Every day we push the boundaries of what is possible for energy storage in our vehicles, demanding extreme attention to details and the highest standard of performance, quality and manufacturability.

What You'll Do

  • Design new battery components that improve product metrics (performance, cost, mass)
  • Own basic testing and analysis; support advanced testing and analysis
  • Develop various test jigs and fixtures to validate battery components
  • Design 3D/2D models of complex parts and assemblies
  • Root cause test failures and process/manufacturing issues
  • Collaborate with other teams inside Tesla (manufacturing, testing, NPI, supply chain, etc.)
  • Create sources of truth to reference important findings

  • What You'll Bring

  • Currently working towards a BS, MS, or advanced degree in a relevant engineering program such as Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, such as mechanics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, material properties and basic electronics
  • Demonstrated hands-on abilities (e.g. machine shop skills, technical hobbies/academic projects, etc.) - Experience with student Formula Vehicle, Solar Car, etc. is a plus
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling. CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX experience is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of tolerance analysis, applying GD&T, finite element analysis (FEA), and basic thermal models
  • Detail-oriented personality with top-tier documentation and reporting skills
  • Fluency in English, German is a plus
