Mode of Employment: Fixed Term / Part-Time; (20 hours / week)

Ready to shape the future of autonomous industrial software? Embark on your PhD thesis at Erlangen or Garching and unleash your creativity in designing self-evolving architectures, applying cutting-edge AI and ML, and redefining what software can achieve.

You'll make an impact by

  • At the outset of your PhD journey, you immerse yourself in the current landscape of autonomous industrial software systems, analyzing their complexities and quality requirements
  • Building on this foundation, you design and implement an innovative self-evolving architecture for industrial software, equipping it with mechanisms for adaptation, self-healing, and optimization during real-world operation
  • Throughout your research, you combine rigorous theoretical investigation with hands-on experimentation, leveraging advanced AI and ML paradigms such as Reinforcement Learning, Federated Learning, and Large Language Models to refine adaptation policies and distributed self-awareness
  • To evaluate and advance your concepts, you develop suitable metrics and quality parameters, and you continuously improve your implementations using Python and leading AI/ML frameworks

  • Education: You are currently successfully pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field and are motivated to start a PhD
  • Experience and Skills:
    • Strong foundation in machine learning, autonomous software systems, and software engineering principles
    • Proficiency in Python and experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ways of Working: You are highly motivated, possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and are capable of conducting independent research as well as collaborating in a team
  • Languages: You are fluent in English
