The Position
Project Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic student to join our team for an exciting internship (6 Months) that can seamlessly transition into a Master's (max. 6 Months) thesis project (alternative also Bachelor thesis - max. 3 Months). The focus of this work will be on the development and characterization of novel electrochemical enzyme biosensors for integration into medical devices. This project offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research at the intersection of electrochemistry, material science, and biomedical engineering.
Potential research areas include, but are not limited to:
- Enzyme Immobilization: Exploring and optimizing various techniques for the stable and efficient immobilization of enzymes onto electrode surfaces
- Electrode Material Modification: Investigating novel electrode materials and surface modifications to enhance sensor performance (sensitivity, selectivity, stability)
- Electrochemical Detection Strategies: Implementing and optimizing different electrochemical techniques (e.g., amperometry, voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy) in a state-of-the-art for analyte detection
- Miniaturization and Integration: Contributing to the design and fabrication of miniaturized biosensor components for potential integration into medical devices
- Performance Evaluation: Characterizing the analytical performance of the developed biosensors in relevant matrices and assessing their suitability for medical applications
Your Tasks During the Internship:
- Literature review on relevant topics (electrochemistry, enzyme biosensors, medical devices)
- Assisting in the design and fabrication of electrochemical sensors
- Performing experiments involving enzyme immobilization and characterization
- Conducting electrochemical measurements and data analysis
- Maintaining accurate laboratory records and presenting findings in team meetings
- Contributing to the preparation of scientific reports and presentations
- Independently executing experiments based on the chosen thesis topic and discussed weekly plan
- Optimizing sensor performance and conducting thorough characterization studies
- Analyzing and interpreting complex data sets
- Writing a comprehensive scientific thesis
- Presenting the research findings in a final presentation
- Potentially contributing to scientific publications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- Strong interest in electrochemistry, biosensors, and their applications in medical devices
- Basic knowledge of electrochemical principles and techniques is advantageous
- Experience with biochemical assays and enzyme handling is a plus
- Hands-on laboratory skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills in English and German
- Motivation, reliability, and a strong work ethic

Please remember that this internship is aimed at students (m/f/d) who are currently enrolled for the entire period of the internship or, alternatively, at people in a gap year of a maximum of one year (between Bachelor's and Master's studies), where it can be proven in writing at which university/college and exactly when (month/year) within a year the studies will be continued.
Period: from September 2026 for a period of 6 months.

Studierende von außerhalb der EU dürfen 140 volle oder 280 halbe Tage im Jahr arbeiten (seit März 2024, zuvor 120/240). Ein Werkstudentenvertrag passt meist in diesen Rahmen — prüfe die genauen Grenzen auf deinem Aufenthaltstitel.
