Stable Scopes is a life science startup based in Erlangen, developing temperature and environmental control solutions for optical microscopy.
We are looking for a motivated working student to support our R&D and operations, with a focus on embedded systems and product development and testing. Working closely with our small team, you will contribute to electronics, firmware, prototyping, product improvements, and day-to-day technical operations.
This role offers practical experience in embedded systems and the opportunity to help develop scientific instruments used in research.
Position details

- Working hours: Up to 20 hours per week

Your main tasks
- Support the development and testing of embedded systems.
- Work with microcontrollers, sensors, electronic components, and PCBs.
- Assist with firmware testing and debugging.
- Build prototypes and carry out measurements and functional tests.
- Help troubleshoot technical issues and improve our products.
- Document test results and development work.
- Support product assembly, testing, and quality control.
- Assist with day-to-day technical and operational activities as needed.
Your profile
- You are currently enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, Medical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- You have a basic understanding of electronics and embedded systems.
- You have some programming knowledge, preferably in C/C++.
- You enjoy hands-on work with electronic hardware and prototypes.
- You work in a structured and reliable manner and are willing to learn.
- You have good communication skills in German and English.
- You are comfortable contributing to both R&D and practical operations in a startup environment.
The following would be an advantage
- Experience with microcontrollers such as ESP32, STM32, or Arduino.
- Experience with firmware development or debugging.
- Familiarity with electronic measurement equipment.
- Experience with soldering, PCB testing, or electronics prototyping.
- Knowledge of Python, Git, or communication protocols such as I²C, SPI, or UART.
- An interest in microscopy, biotechnology, medical technology, or scientific instrumentation.
