Description provided by SAP

We help the world run better

At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

What You’ll Build

The SAP Internship Experience Program is SAP’s global, strategic, paid internship program that provides university students with opportunities to find purpose in their careers. This is more than an internship; it’s the foundation for a career built on connection, creativity, and impact.

Position title: SAP Signavio Intern (f/m/d) – Product Designer

Location: Berlin, Germany

Internship duration: 6 months

You’ll work on cross-product UX consistency initiatives across SAP Signavio’s Process Intelligence suite, contributing to systematic design pattern development, large-scale UX audits, and AI-assisted design workflows with impact across SAP’s Process Intelligence suite.

Your work will directly standardize patterns across SAP’s Process Intelligence suite used by thousands of enterprise users. You’ll eliminate systemic UX debt, create design system contributions, and build AI-assisted tooling that enables designers to self-serve compliance with SAP Fiori guidelines.

You’ll work directly with the Product Design Architect as your mentor and supervisor. You’ll collaborate with:

  • Design System team: Contributing patterns to shared component libraries
  • Cross-functional designers: Presenting work and gathering feedback

This is a mentorship-focused internship with 1:1s weekly and continuous feedback. You’ll have autonomy over your projects while receiving guidance on systematic design thinking and enterprise UX methodology.

You’ll Gain Expertise In

  • Enterprise design systems: SAP Fiori design guidelines, UI5 Web Components integration, cross-product pattern standardization
  • UX auditing methodology: Systematic violation taxonomy, large-scale screen inventory, risk-based prioritization, wave-based remediation planning
  • AI-augmented design workflows: Claude Code for design automation and compliance checking, Figma MCP integration for programmatic design generation, prompt engineering for AI-assisted design review
  • Collaboration & impact: Working with design and cross-functional teams, presenting pattern proposals, measuring design system adoption, technical documentation writing

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who takes the initiative, perseveres, and stays curious. You like to work on meaningful innovative projects and are energized by lifelong learning.

Educational Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a university program in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or related field

Experience Level And Background

  • Demonstrable Figma experience (personal projects, coursework, or professional work)
  • Understanding of design systems concepts (components, variants, reusability, consistency)
  • Interest in enterprise software or B2B products (experience not required, but curiosity essential)
  • Exposure to systematic problem-solving or research methodologies

Essential (must-have)

  • Figma fluency: Comfortable with components, variants, auto-layout, constraints, design systems
  • Claude Code familiarity: Experience using Claude Code OR willingness to learn quickly during first week
  • Design systems mindset: Understanding of reusable patterns, component libraries, design tokens

Nice-to-have (bonus)

  • Basic HTML/CSS/JavaScript knowledge
  • Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG)
  • Prior work with enterprise design systems or component libraries
  • Portfolio showcasing systematic design thinking (case studies, research, audits)

Soft Skills

  • Systematic thinking: Ability to identify patterns, categorize problems, structure complex information
  • Pragmatic execution: Ship working solutions, iterate based on feedback, focus on impact over perfection
  • Curiosity about “why”: Question patterns, understand constraints, reconcile conflicts between competing guidelines
  • Collaboration over ego: Best ideas win regardless of source, open to feedback, comfortable with ambiguity
  • Documentation discipline: Clear written communication, organized note-taking, if it’s not written down it doesn’t exist
  • Comfort with technology: Not intimidated by AI tools or technical workflows, eager to learn new systems

Language Requirements

  • English: Fluent (C1-C2 level) — all work is conducted in English

Working from Berlin office is required

  • Hybrid/onsite work required, 1-2 days per week in Berlin office. Remote-only not available for this position due to collaborative nature of design challenge work and cross-team coordination.

Where You Belong

Be part of SAP Next Gen, a global community for students, universities, schools and educational partners, who are passionate about innovation and technology.

  • Culture of Collaboration: Partner with experienced SAP colleagues and expert mentors who will support your growth. Grow professionally through personalized mentoring, coaching, and career development support.
  • Project-driven Experience: Kickstart your career with hands-on learning experience, making an impact from day one by contributing to meaningful projects that help the world run better. You’ll have endless learning resources at your fingertips and gain future-ready skills from a variety of virtual, in-person, and hybrid learning sessions, cultivated just for you, and aligned with our learning approach.
  • Gain Visibility: Build relationships with leaders and peers across teams and functions. Showcase your ideas, skills, and creativity in a global, fast-paced environment. Open doors for future career opportunities within SAP and beyond.

We value pragmatic execution over perfect documentation, systematic thinking over ad-hoc fixes, and collaboration over individual heroics. We ship working tools, not just planning documents. We believe in “if it’s not written down, it doesn’t exist” and maintain high documentation standards. We’re pioneers in AI-assisted design workflows and comfortable with experimentation and continuous improvement.

You’ll Thrive If You

  • Love solving puzzles and finding patterns in chaos
  • Get excited about building tools that scale design work across an organization
  • Enjoy the challenge of reconciling competing constraints (business needs, technical feasibility, design principles)
  • Want to work at the intersection of design and technology
  • Appreciate both the creative and systematic sides of design work
  • Are comfortable saying “I don’t know, let me research that” rather than guessing

We Work Through

  • Async collaboration via Figma comments and Slack (default mode)
  • Twice-weekly 1:1s with your mentor for deep dives and feedback
  • Weekly design review sessions with broader team
  • Cross-functional partnerships with Design System and Engineering teams
  • Open documentation culture — all specs, findings, and decisions captured in markdown and Figma

During Your 6 Months, You’ll Progress From Learning SAP Fiori Guidelines (Week 1) To Owning Full Project Workstreams (Months 2-6). You’ll Build

  • Portfolio case studies: Document your systematic approach to enterprise design challenges
  • Published tools: Create Claude Code skills or Figma components used by other designers
  • Technical skills: Master Figma API, learn UI5 Web Components architecture, develop AI prompting expertise
  • Career pathways: Exposure to Product Designer, Design System Designer, and Design Technologist roles with potential for return offer or full-time conversion based on performance
