Description provided by Körber
Your role in our team
You support the technical exploration of AI applications with a clear focus on feasibility. You help us quickly test what is technically possible, build prototypes, evaluate tools and architectures, and turn promising ideas into tangible demos or first working solutions.
The role is close to an AI Engineer: hands-on, experimental, and product-oriented. You will work on applied topics such as LLMs, agentic systems, APIs, lightweight frontends, and technical integrations.
- Build and iterate on AI prototypes, demos, and proof-of-concept applications
- Experiment with LLM-based applications, agentic workflows, prompt strategies, and orchestration patterns
- Connect prototypes to APIs, data sources, and enterprise systems where needed
- Support lightweight frontend or app prototypes to make concepts tangible and testable
- Run structured evaluations and benchmarks for models, tools, and technical approaches
- Help with data preparation, prompt engineering, integration logic, and workflow design
- Document prototype architectures, technical learnings, and implementation trade-offs
Your profile
- You are currently enrolled in a university program such as Computer Science, Data Science, AI Engineering, Software Engineering, Business Informatics, or a related field
- First hands-on programming experience with Python and Git-based development workflows
- You are excited about building things, testing ideas quickly, and learning through experimentation
- You have strong curiosity for modern AI development topics such as LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic systems and tool use, and applied prototyping
- First experience with LLM APIs (e.g., Azure OpenAI), orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Microsoft Agent Framework), RAG patterns with a vector store (e.g., pgvector), or evaluation tooling (e.g., Mlflow)
- You can work in a structured way and communicate technical findings clearly
- You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and iterating toward workable solutions
- You are fluent in English, german is a plus
Working student essentials
What this Tech working student role in Berlin means for you: the weekly-hours rules, the social-contribution perks, and what international students should check before applying.
Weekly hours
Working students may work up to 20 hours a week during the semester and full-time during the breaks. Staying within this keeps your student status and the Werkstudent benefits.
Working student rulesSocial contributions
Under the Werkstudentenprivileg you're exempt from health, care and unemployment insurance contributions — only pension insurance applies. That leaves more net pay than a regular job.

Non-EU students can work 140 full or 280 half days per year (raised from 120/240 in March 2024). A working student contract usually fits within this — confirm the exact limits printed on your residence permit.
