Description provided by Gulf Associates

We are looking for a Frontend Engineer Intern to support our specialized technical work for a leading German logistics firm that is expanding into new markets. This role involves building functional and clear interfaces that allow our consultants and clients to visualize complex data, logistical networks, and investment scenarios. As a member of our fully remote team, you will learn how to translate commercial judgment into practical software tools that assist in high-stakes decision-making for sovereign entities and large family groups.

What you will do
  • Develop and maintain internal web applications used to visualize logistical assets and market data for our current client projects.
  • Translate design wireframes and mockups into responsive, functional components using HTML and CSS.
  • Write clean and maintainable JavaScript code to manage data fetching and state transitions in our dashboards.
  • Collaborate with our research team to ensure data presentation matches the commercial reality on the ground.
  • Help build map-based visualizations and charts that illustrate expansion plans and competitor behavior.
  • Identify and resolve frontend bugs to ensure our tools remain reliable for senior decision-makers during negotiations.
  • Participate in peer code reviews to receive feedback and learn common industry standards for professional software development.
  • Assist in documenting frontend logic and internal technical processes to help the team scale its technical capabilities.

What you bring
  • Basic proficiency with HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript frameworks learned through coursework or personal projects.
  • A logical approach to problem-solving and the persistence to troubleshoot technical issues independently.
  • Great attention to detail and a focus on creating simple, functional user interfaces over unnecessary visual flair.
  • Strong interest in how technology and data visualization can support commercial decisions and investment strategies.
  • The self-discipline to manage your own workload and stay productive in a fully remote environment.
  • A clear communication style and the ability to explain technical concepts to colleagues who are not engineers.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the specific technical needs of different commercial advisory projects.
  • Academic background in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience building web applications.

What we offer
  • Direct involvement in high-level commercial advisory projects including work for a major logistics firm.
  • A fully remote work schedule that provides flexibility and focuses on the results you produce.
  • Paid internship status with a compensation level that is competitive for the role and the market.
  • The chance to work alongside senior partners and see how technology impacts capital deployment and negotiations.
  • Opportunities to develop a commercial mindset while honing your technical engineering skills.

Working at Gulf Associates
Gulf Associates operates with a focus on commercial judgment and ground reality rather than theoretical reports. We are not a global corporate entity: we are a specialized, senior-led firm that values direct evidence and actionable advice. We keep our book of active engagements small to ensure that every team member, including our interns, can see the tangible results of their work. Our culture is direct and honest: we avoid unnecessary layers of management and standard consultancy jargon. In this role, you will be expected to focus on outcomes and accuracy rather than just completing tasks. Our remote culture is built on trust and the understanding that professional work requires focus and clear objectives rather than constant supervision in a physical office space.

Working student essentials

What this Tech internship in Berlin means for you: the pay rules, the social contributions, and what international students should check before applying.

Weekly hours

Internships have no 20-hour cap, but a voluntary internship longer than three months generally has to pay at least the German minimum wage. Mandatory internships in your study programme are exempt.

Working student rules

Social contributions

Mandatory internships are largely exempt from social contributions. Voluntary internships are treated like regular employment once they run long enough, so contributions usually apply.

International students

Non-EU students can work 140 full or 280 half days per year (raised from 120/240 in March 2024). A working student contract usually fits within this — confirm the exact limits printed on your residence permit.
