ML Engineer, Ophthalmic AI (Working Student / Master's Thesis, Ophthalmic AI (m/f/d)

We are looking to add a Working Student / Master's Thesis, Ophthalmic AI (m/f/d) to our growing team.

20 h/week or thesis · Start immediately or by arrangement · Prospect of permanent hire

Join the team building our AI product for ophthalmic diagnostics while it's still taking shape. You will work with real clinical data, and there is room to write your Master's thesis on it.

Your role

• Help build and maintain the annotation tooling used to label perimetry and OCT data.
• Run data-quality checks on incoming clinical data deliveries.
• Maintain and extend the evaluation scripts used to benchmark our models.

Possible thesis topics

• Self-supervised representation learning on longitudinal visual-field time series.
• Few-shot detection of rare optic neuropathies from pretrained encoders.
• Structure–function fusion: joint learning from OCT and perimetry.
• Robustness of perimetry models across device generations and software versions.
• Adaptive stimulus-sequencing for VR-based perimetry: Bayesian or reinforcement-learning-based test optimization, benchmarked against classical staircase approaches.

Your profile

• Ongoing Master's degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, medical informatics, or a similar field.
• Solid Python fundamentals and first hands-on PyTorch experience, demonstrated through coursework, personal projects, or Kaggle.
• Works carefully and keeps experiments reproducible.
• Language: no preference, English or German both fine.
