Die Abteilung "Klima, Umwelt, Infrastruktur" bündelt Sektor- und Globalvorhaben in den drei Themenbereichen (i) Energie, Wasser Verkehr, (ii) Klima und Klimapolitik und (iii) Umweltpolitik, Biodiversität, Wald. Hauptauftraggeber der Vorhaben sind das Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) sowie das Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Klimaschutz, Naturschutz und nukleare Sicherheit (BMUKN) und das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWE). Hinzu kommen Kofinanzierungen wie beispielsweise aus der EU.

Die Vorhaben sind global oder überregional ausgerichtet. Die Abteilung arbeitet an einer Reihe von Zukunftsthemen, die global an Bedeutung gewinnen.
