Description provided by BMW Group

THE BEST INTERNSHIP IN THEORY - AND IN PRACTICE.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

World-leading technologies don’t make it into a BMW until they’ve undergone one of the most challenging journeys imaginable. It takes dynamic teams with outstanding technical skills to take them from the drawing board to the road. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

Our team within the central IT department of the BMW Group drives AI platforms, AI governance, and AI monitoring across the enterprise. We combine technical platform data with regulatory requirements to build transparent, scalable reporting and risk-assessment solutions. As an intern, you contribute directly to shaping how the BMW Group monitors and governs its AI landscape.

What awaits you?

  • You support the design and set-up of a cross-platform reporting framework for enterprise AI platforms.
  • Furthermore, you help consolidate, structure, and analyze usage and governance data from our AI platforms.
  • In addition, you contribute to defining KPIs and building dashboards for AI adoption, usage, performance, and governance compliance and you support the creation of recurring management reports and stakeholder-specific reporting views.
  • You also help design and prototype an AI risk classifier for the automated analysis of system prompts.
  • Furthermore, you support developing classification criteria aligned with the risk categories of the EU AI Act.
  • In addition, you help prepare, label, and evaluate platform data to validate and improve the classifier and you help document data sources, methodologies, and reporting concepts for various stakeholders.
  • You also support close collaboration with AI platform teams, data experts, IT governance, and compliance functions.

What should you bring along?

  • Studies in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Initial practical experience or strong interest in data analytics, reporting, dashboards, machine learning, NLP, or generative AI.
  • Good understanding of data preparation, KPI design, and analytical reporting solutions.
  • Interest in AI governance, responsible AI, and the regulatory requirements of the EU AI Act.
  • Ideally initial experience with Python, SQL, BI tools, or machine learning and NLP frameworks.
  • Strong analytical skills, a structured, solution-oriented mindset, and the ability to translate complex requirements into clear, measurable criteria.
  • Fluent in English and German.

Would you like to help build transparent, scalable AI governance and reporting solutions for the BMW Group's enterprise AI platforms? Then Apply now!

Working student essentials

What this Tech internship in Munich means for you: the pay rules, the social contributions, and what international students should check before applying.

Weekly hours

Internships have no 20-hour cap, but a voluntary internship longer than three months generally has to pay at least the German minimum wage. Mandatory internships in your study programme are exempt.

Working student rules

Social contributions

Mandatory internships are largely exempt from social contributions. Voluntary internships are treated like regular employment once they run long enough, so contributions usually apply.

Check your insurance

International students

Non-EU students can work 140 full or 280 half days per year (raised from 120/240 in March 2024). A working student contract usually fits within this — confirm the exact limits printed on your residence permit.
