Since our founding in 2021, Viva la Faba has been committed to revolutionizing the world of cheese. We are a food-tech start-up based in the heart of Stuttgart. We have crafted the world's tastiest and best-melting cheese - made with fava bean protein. Our mission is to create plant-based cheeses that meet the highest standards of quality and taste.
Within this framework, the Research and Development (R&D) area plays a pivotal role, driving continuous innovation and ground-breaking product development to not only exceed our customers' expectations but also to lead the way in sustainable practices throughout our entire value chain.
Functions
As the Research & Development (R&D) Working Student at Viva la Faba, under the supervision of Head of R&D, the Employee will support the innovation and development of plant-based cheese products. The Employee will assist in various R&D projects and processes to ensure their success. Specific responsibilities include:
Research and Development (R&D) (60 %)
- Lab Trials: Support the setup and execution of lab trials in our lab in Stuttgart.
- Innovation: Assist in identifying innovative ingredients, suppliers, and technologies.
- Product development: Participate in brainstorming sessions, develop prototypes, and design manufacturing processes for new products.
Quality Management and Quality Control (30 %)
- Quality Assurance: Review and improve Quality Management (QM) processes, ensuring accurate data recording.
- Compliance: Ensure all products and processes comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Inspection and Testing: Support quality control inspections and testing to ensure products meet specified criteria.
Industry Engagement (10 %)
- Event support: Assist in the planning and preparation of company events.
- Promotion: Represent the company professionally at industry events, conferences, and trade shows.
Competences
Technical Expertise:
- Knowledge of R&D methodologies and practices.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and quality control processes.
Project Management:
- Proficient in assisting with the management of multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Strong analytical skills to assess processes and identify areas for improvement.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving issues in R&D, and quality control.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Effective communication skills for liaising with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to represent the company professionally at events and in industry interactions.
- Supportive and cooperative approach to working in a team environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Master’s degree (completed or on-going) in Food Science, Food Systems, or similar.
- Professional Experience: Lab experience is required; experience in product development and/or quality management is an advantage. Experience within the alternative protein sector is preferred. Familiarity with plant-based protein fermentation would be beneficial, though it is not essential for the role.
- Language: English fluency required, German is a plus

Studierende von außerhalb der EU dürfen 140 volle oder 280 halbe Tage im Jahr arbeiten (seit März 2024, zuvor 120/240). Ein Werkstudentenvertrag passt meist in diesen Rahmen — prüfe die genauen Grenzen auf deinem Aufenthaltstitel.
