Beschreibung bereitgestellt von Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE

As one of the world's largest solar research institutes, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE makes a substantial contribution to a sustainable, economical, secure, and socially just global energy supply. Our goal is to advance the energy transition with concretely implementable technological solutions—through excellent research results, successful industry collaborations, and spin-offs. For this purpose, our approximately 1,300 employees conduct research in four focus areas: energy provision, energy distribution, energy storage, and energy use. The state-of-the-art R&D infrastructure of Fraunhofer ISE, with 22,300 m² of laboratory space, enables top-level research on an international scale.

Be part of change

Do you want to actively shape the energy transition and be part of a highly motivated team? Then let’s work together to contribute with Agrivoltaics.

You will support our group "Agrivoltaics", which studies photovoltaic systems that, in addition to agricultural use, enable electricity generation on the same area. In essence, this aims at a resource-efficient use of agricultural land and the unlocking of expansion potentials for renewable energy sources. With us, you will contribute to the realization of this goal. Together we conduct research, among other things, on the shade tolerance of crops, intelligent light management, synergy effects from dual-use of the land, possible political funding mechanisms, as well as technical and economic potential assessment.

For our group "Agrivoltaics", we are looking for a student assistant to start as soon as possible for the following tasks:

  • You assist in the development, configuration, and installation of monitoring systems for agrivoltaic facilities and support the project management in the organization.
  • You configure and test sensors in the laboratory, develop robust sensor substructures with and install the sensors in the field.
  • You assist with the detailed and standardized research of parameters in the areas of microclimate, soil, crop cultivation, and PV performance at different sites.
  • You collect sensor data, preprocess the data, and analyze it.

What You Contribute

  • You are studying mechatronics, microsystems technology, computer science, or a comparable field.
  • You already have experience in Linux systems (Shell/Terminal), Python (e.g., for data analysis with pandas) as well as statistical methods, and Git.
  • Knowledge in Modbus-RTU protocol, Remote Sensing, microcontroller programming or application, integrated data processing, and C++ is advantageous but not required.
  • It is important to you to contribute to your team and to achieve goals together in interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • You plan and complete tasks independently and with high quality.
  • When facing challenges, you have perseverance and don’t give up until you achieve the desired results.
  • You work autonomously and with commitment.
  • You can plan upcoming work steps independently and proactively, set priorities, and you have appropriate time management.
  • Routine use of Microsoft Office programs on Windows 11, Linux systems (Shell/Terminal), Python (e.g., for data analysis with pandas), and statistical methods, and Git is standard for you.
  • Ideally, you have already worked with Visual Studio Code and PostgreSQL.
  • You can express yourself confidently in both German and English.

What We Offer

  • Exclusive insight: In collaborative work with the scientists of our unit, you gain an insight into the everyday life of research and development at a research institute.
  • Research mix: With us, you have the opportunity to connect experimental work with theory, applying and expanding your knowledge from your studies.
  • Supervision: You will be mentored by scientists in your work, and you will receive feedback on your progress.
  • Teamwork: Through exchange with scientific and student staff, you gain experience working in a team and can contribute your already acquired skills.
  • Working hours and location: We offer you the option to flexibly adjust your working hours to your needs in consultation, and occasionally work from home.
  • Equal opportunities: We value equal opportunities and create space for diversity.
  • After Work: Celebrate yourself and your colleagues at after-work events or our annual staff celebrations.

Remuneration is based on the degree of the academic qualification.

We value and promote the diversity of skills among our employees and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social background, religion, ideology, disability, and sexualorientation and identity. Severely disabled persons will be given preference in case of equal qualification.

Ready for a change? Then apply now with your compelling application documents (including CV, cover letter, and references/performance records) and make a difference! After your online application is received, you will receive an automatic acknowledgment. We will get back to you as soon as possible to tell you how the process continues.
