Job description

Xaver published this listing. We've added our own working-student context below — what this role means for your weekly hours, take-home pay and student visa as a student in Cologne, Germany.

Description provided by Xaver

We’re a fast-scaling FinTech, founded by an experienced team that has previously built multi-million Euro companies. Over the past three years, we have established ourselves in a regulated €100bn+ market and are backed by leading founders, senior industry executives, and top-tier global VCs.

You will join a growing team at a pivotal stage and work closely with our engineering and design teams to scale our product further.

We are looking for a Frontend Developer Intern to join us in our Cologne headquarters.

Your Role:

As a Frontend Developer Intern at Xaver, you’ll start with a comprehensive onboarding phase. While diving into the codebase, we want to make sure you have the time to arrive in the team, soak up our culture, and truly understand the business and product context of what we are building. You’ll get familiar with our team dynamics and engineering workflows at a sustainable pace.

Once you’ve found your bearings, you'll work alongside senior engineers to ship real, user-facing code, integrating directly into our core product development.

This isn't a shadowing role or an internship spent working on isolated side-projects that never see the light of day. We definitely don't expect you to push code to production on day one. But we do hire people we trust to take real ownership quickly once they are ramped up, and we back them when they do. You will actively contribute to our codebase, participate in technical discussions, and play a tangible role in building the foundation of our FinTech platform.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Feature Development: Build, test, and deploy responsive, accessible, and high-performance user interfaces using our modern tech stack (Next.js and TypeScript).
  • Design Implementation: Work closely with our UI/UX design team to bridge the gap between design and technical implementation, translating high-fidelity Figma designs into reusable component libraries and clean layouts.
  • Code Quality & Iteration: Write clean, type-safe, and maintainable code. Participate actively in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback to elevate the team's engineering standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with backend engineers, product managers, and design teams to ensure seamless API integrations and optimal frontend performance.

Your Qualifications:

  • Technical Foundation: Strong foundational knowledge of TypeScript, React, and modern CSS/styling frameworks. Hands-on project experience with Next.js is highly valued.
  • Design Sensitivity: A sharp eye for UI detail and user experience. You know your way around Figma and care about smooth transitions and responsive web design.
  • Coding: You prefer writing structured, type-safe code and understand the basics of version control (Git). We do use coding AI agents heavily in a well structured human-in-the-loop QA process. In the end the result is what matters (the code) independently on who wrote it. But we engineers must be in control of solution space and understand everything we do so that we can make the best decisions. In the end you must be able to write good, effective code yourself in order to be able to use AI effectively.
  • Mindset: Self-motivated, curious, and genuinely excited about building products in a fast-paced startup environment. You stay organized and ask the right questions when tackling complex logic.
  • Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field—or you have built a standout portfolio of personal projects that proves your engineering capability.
  • Language: Fluency in English is required

  • Competitive remuneration. Additional company perks such as gym memberships round up an individual package.
