Im Jahr 2008 haben 19 führende Unternehmen in Deutschland die Initiative AFRIKA KOMMT! gegründet.
Das Stipendienprogramm bringt innovative junge Talente aus Afrika mit deutschen Unternehmen zusammen. Während die Unternehmen von der Expertise, dem Wissen und den lokalen Netzwerken der jungen Führungskräfte profitieren, lernen die afrikanischen Stipendiat*innen für zwölf Monate das Leben und Arbeiten in Deutschland kennen. Das Auswärtige Amt unterstützt das Programm. Der Bundespräsident ist Schirmherr des Programms.
Die GIZ ist für die Konzeption, Umsetzung und strategische Ausrichtung des Programms verantwortlich. Vom Bewerbungsprozess über das virtuelle Assessment Center, die Wohnraumbeschaffung, das Onboarding der Stipendiat*innen bis hin zur Organisation von Sprachkursen, Trainings und Studienfahrten geschieht hier alles in enger Abstimmung mit den Kunden von AFRIKA KOMMT!.
