Job description

Description provided by Factor2 Energy

At Factor2 Energy, we are on a mission to revolutionize the geothermal market. Our vision is to scale the global geothermal potential rapidly and to provide 24/7 green energy at competitive rates by utilizing CO₂ as the working fluid.

“Work smarter, not harder!” Our approach uses CO₂ as the working fluid in geothermal power generation – enabling emission-free, efficient, and baseload-capable electricity. We apply it in two types of reservoirs. In naturally permeable formations that either contain CO₂ or are designated for carbon capture and storage (CCS), we transform passive storage sites into active, sustainable energy resources. In hot dry rock, we create the reservoir by hydraulic stimulation (CO₂-based EGS). Our technology leverages the unique thermophysical properties of CO₂ to unlock significantly more viable sites than conventional geothermal energy – using proven drilling and stimulation methods from the oil & gas industry and building on existing infrastructure and know-how.

Actually, it’s “Work smarter and harder!” The climate crisis is the greatest challenge in human history! We are looking for highly motivated and ambitious individuals who want to be part of the solution and have a sustainable impact.

‍

Turn your expertise into climate impact‍

We are looking for a working student to work closely with the R&D team on developing geothermal power plants. Your mission will be to model and optimize the CO₂-based geothermal cycle and to support the development of the first CO₂-based power plant. This role will be central to evaluating system performance, flexibility, and economic potential, supporting early-phase project development and technical validation.

‍

Your main tasks:

  • Perform thermodynamic and thermoeconomic modeling, simulation and optimization of the CO₂-based power cycle
  • Use GIS data to support geothermal exploration and assess the concept across different US locations
  • Collect, structure and evaluate geological, technical and economic data
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and take on tasks outside your main role

What you bring:

  • Enrolment in a Master’s program in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics and physics
  • Knowledge and practical experience with any thermodynamic or process modelling tools (Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, EBSILON, KRAWAL, Modelica, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of energy markets and GIS systems; previous internship or working-student experience is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and a structured working style
  • Excellent written and spoken English; German is a plus

‍

What we offer:

  • Direct leadership access
  • Tangible, measurable impact
  • Flexible working time
  • Competitive salary

‍

Not ticking every box? Apply anyway!

At Factor2 Energy, we believe in potential over perfection. You don’t need to meet every single requirement to be the right fit for this role. What matters most to us is your motivation, your willingness to learn, and your ambition to grow with us.

We see learning and development as a core part of our culture. If you’re excited about our mission and ready to take on new challenges, we’d love to hear from you — even if your experience doesn’t tick every box.
