A Snapshot of Your Day
As part of an ongoing funded R&D project within the Primary Electric team of Siemens Energy’s Water Electrolysis business unit, you will contribute to the development of large-scale water electrolyser systems through a six-month master’s thesis project focused on 3D FEM simulation of power electronics.
In this role, you will perform multi-physical 3D FEM simulations, investigate the influence of converter systems on overall performance, and develop reduced-order models for circuit-level simulations. Your work will support the advancement of innovative power electronic solutions for industrial-scale hydrogen production.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Execution of 3D Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations for power electronic converters, covering component- and system-level analyses under electrolysis operating conditions
- Evaluation of multi-physical converter behavior with consideration of electrical, thermal, magnetic, and acoustic influences
- Analysis and interpretation of FEM simulation results, including the development of reduced-order models for circuit-level simulations
- Preparation, visualization, and presentation of simulation data using MATLAB, Python, and PowerPoint for internal and external stakeholders
- Collaboration with the Primary Electric engineering team on design optimization initiatives for large-scale water electrolysis plants
- Documentation of simulation methodologies, technical findings, and project progress, as well as active participation in R&D project reviews and alignment meetings
What You Bring
- Enrollment in a Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field
- Knowledge of power electronics and experience with FEM simulation methodologies gained through academic projects, coursework, or thesis work
- Application of 3D FEM simulation techniques, electromagnetic and thermal modeling, and power electronics circuit simulation
- Utilization of MATLAB and Python for simulation, data analysis, and technical problem-solving activities
- Competence in data visualization, scientific documentation, and technical report preparation
- Strong analytical and research capabilities, combined with independent working practices and excellent English communication skills; German language skills considered an advantage
