Stellenbeschreibung

Beschreibung bereitgestellt von Fraunhofer IOF

A passion for solutions with light – that's the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF! Based in Jena, a city with a long tradition in optics, we conduct application-oriented research in the field of photonics. We develop innovative light-based technologies and create state-of-the-art optical components and systems along the entire process chain - from design and simulation to manufacturing, integration, and application of customer-specific solutions and prototypes.

Join our team and shape the future together with us!

The “Imaging and Sensing” department is looking for a student assistant, who will be enhancing existing, prototypically implemented algorithms for 3D calculation. Additionally, an experimental validation system must be assembled and characterized. In the case of challenging environmental conditions, the method of multi-scale parallel single-pixel imaging has the potential to enable breakthrough advances. The “image processing and AI” group contributes to this goal by bringing this novel method into 3d sensors.

After successful introduction, there is the possibility of working on the topic as part of a thesis (bachelor's or master's thesis).

Be part of change

  • Introduction to existing framework (PBRT-based simulation + Python code)
  • Analysis of 3D results from simulation and physical experiments
  • Prototyping, implementation, and test of software (Python, C++)
  • Set-up and characterization of a prototype hardware setup

What you contribute

  • You are a student in the field of computer science, photonics, physics, engineering or a similar study program.
  • You have basic knowledge of working in laboratories, with scientific equipment, and in digital data processing.
  • You are motivated to learn how to control modern technologies, methods, and processes in the field of optical sensors.
  • You are willing to work on-site at our institute (ca. 75%).
  • Your strengths include an independent and systematic approach to work, creative and analytical thinking as well as commitment, team orientation, and communication skills.
  • You are fluent in spoken and written German or English.
  • A friendly, reliable and open manner completes your profile.

What we offer

  • Collaboration in challenging research and development projects
  • A collegial, open-minded and friendly team
  • A variety of activities in a modern and well-equipped working environment
  • Flexible working hours that allow you to combine your studies with practical experience
  • Comprehensive professional support by scientific mentors
  • Excellent connections to public transport

The monthly working time is ca. 35 hours. This position is limited. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications – regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Our tasks are diverse and adaptable – for applicants with disabilities, we work together to find solutions that best promote their abilities. Remuneration according to the general works agreement for employing assistant staff.
