About The Role

As Working Student – Scaled Model Flight Controls, you support the flight controller implementation for our scaled demonstrator aircraft at ERC System. These models support verification and identification tasks in conceptual and preliminary design, are used to research future aircraft configurations, and verify flight controller capabilities.

You work closely with our flight physics department, adapting their control laws to the smaller scale, and gain hands-on insight into integrating them into PX4 and proving them in flight.

What You Will Do

  • Adapt flight control laws to the smaller scale and integrate them into PX4
  • Set up and configure the autopilot
  • Tune controllers and analyse flight logs to derive improvements for controllers and models
  • Identify aircraft dynamics from flight data and ground tests
  • Prepare and take part in ground and flight tests
  • Document parameters, configurations, and test results

What You Bring

  • Enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Solid understanding of control theory, such as PID control, state-space methods, and stability, and of flight dynamics
  • Programming experience, with an emphasis on MATLAB/Simulink
  • Hands-on experience working with UAVs or model aircraft
  • Strong motivation to work with hardware and get it ready to fly
  • A structured and reliable way of working, independently and in a team, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent English, with German knowledge as a plus

Moreover, it would be helpful if you also

  • have experience with PX4 or ArduPilot on Pixhawk flight controllers, including MAVLink and log analysis
  • have experience with system identification and flight testing
  • have experience with Linux and Git

What We Offer

  • Full-scale aerospace engineering, not concept slides
  • A 60+ engineer team at Ottobrunn
  • Real ownership and flat hierarchies: a modern startup culture where your input shapes decisions, not just execution
  • Flexible working hours, remote work, and competitive compensation
  • Health & wellbeing: EGYM Wellpass membership and subsidized lunch in our canteen
  • Office extras: espresso coffee, fresh fruit, and soft drinks, plus regular team and company events, and plenty more once you're on board
