Role Overview
We’re looking for a Robotics Engineer with strong expertise in SLAM and autonomous navigation in unknown indoor environments. You’ll design and implement core autonomy software for our robotic platforms using ROS 2, and take it to real hardware.
This is a paid, on-site internship (Praktikum) open to current students and recent graduates. It offers hands-on experience developing and testing autonomy software on real robots.
Key Responsibilities
- Optimize and improve SLAM pipeline
- Make the navigation and motion planning stack perform reliably across a wide variety of indoor environments
- Develop robotics software in C++ and Python using ROS 2
- Integrate, test, and validate autonomy software on real hardware
- Build reliable debugging and logging tools for the navigation pipeline
- Document the autonomy stack
- Collaborate closely with the perception and hardware teams to deliver a reliable system
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Robotics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, with 1–2+ years of hands-on experience
- Strong understanding of frontier-based-exploration, graph search (BFS, A*, Dijkstra, etc.), and local planners (e.g., MPPI, DWB)
- Practical experience with SLAM, navigation, and motion planning, including concepts like occupancy grid maps, cost maps, and behavior trees as well as software packages like Nav2 and RTAB-Map
- Strong ROS 2 experience
- Excellent C++ and Python skills
- Experience working with autonomous vehicles (e.g., UAV, USV, UGV) or mobile robots
- Experience with CI/CD and software testing/development best practices
Nice to Have
- Capable of extracting and combining data from different peripherals (LiDARS, cameras, IMUs, wheels) to increase state estimation quality
- Experience with Gazebo or Isaac Simulator for developing simulated robots and quickly testing robotic stacks
- CAD Design and 3D printing experience
- Capable of integrating raw sensor data into a ROS Stack (e.g., writing or adapting drivers)
- Familiarity with software deployment in Nvidia Jetson devices
- Understanding of Reinforcement Learning and its applications for indoor exploration
- Experience with coordinate frames, transforms, and URDFs
What this role is not
This is an on-site robotics software role focused on autonomy. It’s not primarily a full-stack, computer vision, ML/AI, electronics, or mechanical engineering position.
What We Offer
- Work on real autonomous robots
- A collaborative, engineering-driven team with high ownership and real-world impact
- Wellpass (company-subsidized fitness and wellness membership)
How to Apply
Please send your resume and (if available) your portfolio including GitHub repos, publications, and/or robotics project demos to: [email protected].
