About PiFusion:
We build the process intelligence of industrial manufacturing.
Production machines are among the most complex technical systems in our industry. Yet many decisions on the shop floor still rest on individual, non-scalable experience rather than on solid process knowledge. The consequences: missing traceability, higher scrap rates, long setup and rework times.
PiFusion builds a platform for manufacturing environments that integrates machine data and can be extended with further data sources on the shop floor, turning it into process knowledge that can be used in daily operations. Part of this is an AI assistant that answers operators' questions directly at the machine. Everything runs on-site in the plant; no data leaves the facility.
Your role:
To develop our solution further, we're looking for a working student with technical understanding, initiative and an interest in AI systems in real production use. You'll work at the intersection of machine learning, engineering and software development, and actively shape which technologies and product ideas we build next.
Your topics include in particular:
- Implementing new features and system components that extend the PiFusion platform step by step
- Analysing production data from our industry and research partners and building models and algorithms for process monitoring and quality prediction
- Building the tests and evaluations we use to check that our AI assistant answers reliably, because on the shop floor a wrong answer is worse than none
- Preparing machine documentation so the assistant can search it properly
- Direct exchange with our industry and research partners
What you bring:
- Enrolled in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science, data science or a comparable field, with at least two semesters still to go
- Very Good Python skills and first experience with modern software and data science stacks (e.g. Pandas, PyTorch, SQL, GitHub)
- Understanding of machine learning, data processing, data structures and technical software development
- Strong technical understanding and the ability to get into complex systems quickly; mechanical engineers who code are a great fit
- Openness to modern AI-assisted development workflows
- Independent, structured way of working and an appetite for responsibility
- Eagerness to learn and to get into new technical topics fast
- Good German and English
Nice to have:
- Experience with CNC environments, control technology or machining processes
- Knowledge of causal modelling, explainable AI (XAI) or data-driven assistance systems
- Practical experience in an industrial, research or tech environment
What we offer:
- Active involvement: from your first idea to the productive solution at the customer, you work closely with the team
- Interdisciplinary work: problems that combine ML, engineering, industrial processes and system development at the same time
- Early key role: you join in an early growth phase and actively shape the company's technical development
- Strong perspective: you work on systems that will shape the next generation of industrial production environments
- Start on 4 January 2027, 20 hours a week, on-site in Munich, hours flexible around your lectures
- Direct collaboration with both founders, no layers in between
Does that sound like your next challenge?
- Send a short email to [email protected] with your CV and a link to something you've built.
