Our goal is to deliver a time-critical roadmap, deliver outstanding customer value, and drive innovation across our brands—Scania, MAN, INTERNATIONAL and Volkswagen Truck & Bus. This transformation will strengthen our competitiveness and position Group R&D as a key business partner within TRATON Group. We are now looking for you to be part of this exciting change journey, shaping the future of Group R&D.We see the individuality of our employees as a strength and welcome diverse applications from people with different backgrounds. If you need support during your application, please contact us.

Shape the future of commercial vehicle development with us.

At TRATON R&D, we are working on the technologies and engineering solutions behind the next generation of commercial vehicles.

We are looking for students who want to do more than just learn about AI and modern software development. We want people who are curious, hands-on, and excited to explore how Software, AI, Cloud Technologies, and modern Engineering can change the way vehicles and complex automotive systems are developed.

If you enjoy building things, experimenting with new technologies, and turning ideas into working solutions, we want to meet you.

As a working student within TRATON R&D, you will work alongside our engineers on real technical challenges and explore new approaches for automotive development.

Your Tasks

  • Build prototypes, software features, and internal engineering tools
  • Work with modern programming languages and technologies such as Python, Java/Kotlin, TypeScript/JavaScript, or C/C++
  • Explore how AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and Agentic AI can support and transform engineering and software development
  • Work with modern AI-powered development environments and coding agents such as Kiro, Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools
  • Experiment with AI to improve development workflows, engineering tasks, and automation
  • Explore Cloud and DevOps technologies, including AWS, containers, and CI/CD
  • Gain insights into Automotive Software, Systems Engineering, Requirements Engineering, and Architecture
  • Bring your own ideas, challenge existing approaches, and turn concepts into working solutions

Your qualifications

You don't need to know everything already. What matters most to us is your technical curiosity and willingness to develop and build things yourself.

Ideally, you:

  • Are studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable technical field
  • Have already completed hands-on software or engineering projects, whether at university, privately, during an internship, or as part of an open-source project

  • Have a basic understanding of Git and modern software development
  • Are curious about AI, LLMs, and Agentic AI
  • Have ideally already experimented with AI in a software, engineering, automation or simulation project
  • Enjoy understanding complex technical systems and finding practical solutions
  • Have the motivation to try things out, learn quickly, and turn ideas into something that works
  • Have ideally worked with AI development tools such as Kiro, Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools
  • Automotive systems and vehicle software knowledge would be benefitial

What matters to us

We are not looking for the perfect CV. We are looking for people who build.

Maybe you developed software for a university project. Maybe you built your own AI agent, automated an engineering task, worked on a vehicle or robotics project, used AI to support mechanical or software engineering, or simply experimented with a new technology because you wanted to understand how it works.

Show us what you have built. Tell us what problem you wanted to solve and what you learned along the way.

At TRATON R&D, you can bring this mindset into real-world automotive engineering and explore how AI and software can help shape the future of commercial vehicles.

We offer

  • Entry in one of the largest automotive groups (Volkswagen Group)
  • 18.00 € gross/hour for up to 20 hours/week
  • Flexible working hours with trust-based working hours

  • Benefits and employee discounts
  • International cooperation with TRATON brands in Sweden, USA and Brazil
