This Challenge Awaits You

The electrification of the powertrain and the increasing digitalization of vehicles are leading to ever more complex challenges in ensuring electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). To address these challenges, extensive EMC measurements are carried out on components, systems, and complete vehicles throughout the development process.

A key aspect is the efficient, reproducible, and traceable execution of measurement procedures in the vehicle test hall. In addition to traditional measurement technologies, software-based automation solutions and AI-supported methods for analyzing large volumes of measurement data are becoming increasingly important.

For our department, we are looking for students who are eager to develop, implement, and validate innovative approaches for the automation of EMC measurements using Python and artificial intelligence methods, and to test these solutions in a practical laboratory environment.

Your Tasks

  • You analyze and document existing EMC measurement processes in the vehicle test hall.
  • You research current technologies and developments in the automation of measurement systems as well as AI-supported data analysis methods.
  • You develop Python-based tools to automate recurring measurement and analysis processes.
  • You control and integrate measuring equipment, test benches, and vehicle components via suitable interfaces.
  • You develop scripts for measurement data acquisition, data storage, preprocessing, and visualization.
  • You investigate the application of AI methods for the analysis of EMC measurement data, for example to identify anomalies, patterns, or recurring interference events.
  • You document the developed solutions and the results achieved.

Necessary Skills

  • Ongoing studies in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a comparable technical discipline
  • Basic knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) or high-frequency engineering
  • Interest in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and automation
  • You approach tasks independently and demonstrate a careful and structured way of working
  • Fluent German and good English language skills (minimum C1 and B2 level)

Desired Skills

  • Programming skills in Python or a comparable programming language
  • Basic understanding of software development concepts, such as Git, modular programming, or software testing
  • Basic knowledge of instrument control, test automation, or laboratory automation
  • Initial hands-on experience in high-frequency engineering or electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
