Let’s build the fossil-free future
Are you ready to save the planet?
At Greenlyte, we are reshaping the global fuel economy with our novel, IP-protected, direct air capture to fuels technology, which shows superior economic potential compared to existing approaches, even reaching fossil prices. Backed by leading European VCs and with commercial agreement from Lufthansa and MB Energy, we are deploying our first commercial facilities to prove commercial viability in the next 12 months.
Our Process Validation Team scales up the electrolysers that release CO₂ from its captured state. As a working student, you work hands-on at electrolyser and stack level: you build, test and analyse larger-scale hardware that moves our technology toward industrial scale. No sandbox projects, just real hardware and real results.
How You'll Contribute
- Assemble, disassemble and inspect electrolyser cells and stacks following defined build procedures
- Prepare and run tests on our larger-scale test stands, including pre-test checks such as leak testing
- Support accelerated stress tests (ASTs) to evaluate electrolyser durability
- Run degradation studies on key stack components such as membranes, electrodes and seals
- Perform post-test teardowns and failure analysis at stack and component level, and document root causes
- Analyse test data and turn it into clear, actionable findings for the team
- Keep the test area safe, organised and well documented
Your first 6 months in the role
- Week 1–4: Get to know the team, our technology and our test stand setup. Learn our assembly procedures, safety standards and documentation practices. Support stack builds, test runs and teardowns under supervision.
- Month 2–3: Assemble and disassemble stacks independently. Run standard test protocols including ASTs, analyse results and maintain detailed test logs. Contribute to failure analysis reports and improve our documentation.
- Month 4–6: Own a technical workstream, such as AST protocol development, a component degradation study or stack failure analysis. Design hypothesis-driven tests and collaborate with modelling, systems, process engineering and our fundamental lab team. Optionally, scope a thesis project around your work.
About You
Must-have
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemistry, Chemical, Mechanical or Process Engineering, or a related field
- First experience in electrochemistry or electrolyser/fuel cell technology
- Comfortable with hands-on mechanical work and handling larger hardware
- Structured and detail-oriented, especially in documentation and systematic failure analysis
- Able to work independently and as part of a tight-knit team of scientists, engineers and technicians
- Eager to learn fast and see your experiments make a measurable difference
- Fluent English, written and spoken
Nice-to-have
- Enrolled in a Master’s program
- Hands-on experience with test rigs or hardware assembly, e.g. from lab work or projects like Formula Student
What We Offer
- Meaningful work with direct impact on global decarbonisation
- Real hardware and real responsibility from day one
- Room to grow and shape your role, including the option to write your thesis with us
- Flat hierarchies, no micromanagement and close collaboration across teams
- Founders who invest time in building a healthy, sustainable organisation
- Open and transparent communication on company development
- 20 days vacation plus public holidays to rest and recharge
Noteworthy points
- This role is fully on-site at our Essen location. Remote work is not possible, so you should live within commuting distance.
- Working hours: 20 hours per week during the semester
