THE BEST INTERNSHIP IN THEORY - AND IN PRACTICE.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

World-leading technologies don’t make it into a BMW until they’ve undergone one of the most challenging journeys imaginable. It takes dynamic teams with outstanding technical skills to take them from the drawing board to the road. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

In our Penetration Testing team, which is part of the Automotive Cyber Security department, we search for vulnerabilities in Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and embedded microcontrollers. As the software on ECUs continues to become more secure, hardware attacks are gaining popularity in the automotive hacking scene. In your Master’s Thesis, you will perform fault injection attacks on microcontrollers, as well as evaluate countermeasures and suggest improvements to protect future control units from such attacks.

What can you expect?

  • You will assist in evaluating microcontroller platforms regarding fault injection susceptibility.
  • You will implement examples of sensitive use cases (e.g., password comparison, signature verification) in C/C++.
  • You will analyze the timing of successful attacks on assembly level and use the data to create fault models.
  • You will use a Large Language Model to optimize searching the attack parameter space.

What do you bring?

  • Studying Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, or a comparable field.
  • Solid programming skills in C/C++, along with basic knowledge of ARM assembly.
  • Knowledge of Python, bash, or another scripting language.
  • Basic understanding of implementing cryptographic algorithms.
  • Experience using Agentic AI tools.
  • Experience with side-channel or fault attack techniques.

You are enthused by new technologies and an innovative environment? Apply now!
