Are you ready to embark on a transformative journey at the intersection of smart cities, sustainable urban development, and innovation? Look no further than BABLE, an organisation dedicated to accelerating positive change in cities and communities.
As we continue our mission to bridge the gap between the public and private sectors, we're excited to offer an opportunity to join our dynamic team as an Intern Project Delivery.
About BABLE
BABLE Smart Cities is the Facilitator for Smart Cities in Europe, born as a spin-off from Fraunhofer Research Society. With a decade of experience in the field, we offer practical insights gained by practitioners, for practitioners.
Our mission is to accelerate change in the public and private sectors by providing market access and knowledge. We have already facilitated €2 billion in Smart City projects with cities, towns, and regions. Our free knowledge hub connects innovators and the public sector, providing access to some of the most comprehensive Smart City datasets and insights in Europe.
With a growing presence across Europe, we combine local knowledge with global best practices to implement more projects faster. Join us on the journey to a better urban life!
The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Intern to support our project delivery work at BABLE Smart Cities.
This role sits at the intersection of research excellence and real-world execution. You will work closely with our advisory team delivering funding roadmaps, bid and tender applications, and market research for cities, regions, and solution providers across Europe and beyond.
The internship offers an opportunity to develop your research, analytical, and project delivery skills while helping turn complex information into clear, usable outputs. If you care about quality, structure, and impact, this role is for you.
What You Will Do
- Support the preparation of funding roadmaps for municipalities and regions, mapping projects to relevant national and EU funding instruments.
- Assist with bid and tender writing for public-sector and EU-funded programmes, including research, structuring inputs, and quality checks.
- Contribute to the development of standardised delivery templates, internal tools, and repeatable processes.
- Conduct targeted desk research on funding programmes, policy frameworks, and market developments in climate action, energy, mobility, and smart cities.
- Support market scoping and opportunity analysis for public- and private-sector clients.
- Synthesise research into concise reports, presentations, and other formats that support decision-making.
- Support internal quality assurance processes for reports, funding applications, and client deliverables.
- Help maintain internal knowledge bases and structured datasets that underpin our delivery work.
- Collaborate with colleagues across advisory, platform, and customer teams in an international environment.
Tasks will be adapted to your skills and interests, with a strong emphasis on learning by doing.
What We Expect from You
We're looking for individuals who share our passion for sustainable urban development, research, and smart cities. You do not need to know everything on day one. We care most about curiosity, structure, and reliability.
A Can-Do Attitude! A willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.
Problem-Solving Prowess: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to approach tasks in a structured and practical way.
Research Wizardry: Strong research skills and the ability to turn complex information into clear, concise, and usable outputs.
An Eye for Detail: A commitment to accuracy, consistency, and quality when preparing documents and reviewing deliverables.
Tech Savvy: Confidence working with structured documents and data using MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Independence: The ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks responsibly, and collaborate effectively within a team.
Communicative Genius: Very good written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate clearly in an international environment.
Your Profile
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a master's programme in a relevant field, or bringing equivalent practical experience.
- A background in smart cities, sustainability, energy, mobility, urban planning, public policy, engineering, or a related field would be beneficial.
- A strong interest in how ideas become funded and implemented projects.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-based environment.
- First exposure to EU funding, public procurement, or consultancy-style work would be an advantage.
- A mandatory internship requirement as part of your studies would be an advantage.
- Proficiency in an additional EU language would be beneficial, with German particularly desirable.
- While your academic background and experience matter, what truly excites us is your potential to make an impact. Our team is a vibrant mix of engineers, geographers, economists, policy specialists, and urban planners, all bringing different perspectives to the table.
