Summary
The Apple Cellular Protocol Software (CPS) team is actively looking for an intern to learn and grow in our software development team. Join us and be part of the team that powers the working productivity and efficiency of Apple software development!

As a member of this team, you will develop AI/ML-driven solutions that help build, maintain and extend the architectures behind efficient, bug-free delivery of our cellular software across our wireless products.

We are looking for individuals who are equally passionate about AI/ML, cellular technologies, and solving complex real-world problems.

You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with opportunities to explore innovative technologies, develop research prototypes, and translate ideas into solutions that can improve the next generation of wireless products.

Description
This Internship position provides prospective candidates an opportunity to get hands on experience working with the Apple cellular software development and verification teams at Apple. Team offering this internship position is responsible to validate cellular modem software and firmware running on virtual prototype of underlying hardware and communicating with proprietary or commercial network simulators. You, under guidance of your mentor, and with knowledge of LTE/NR physical layer protocols and programming using C++, will be expected to enhance the current test framework to increase its test capabilities. At the end of internship, you will be provided an opportunity to present to Wireless Technologies & Ecosystem leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, AI/ML, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related major.
  • Excellent AI-assisted software development and debugging skills (C, C++, Python, scripting), with a deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering practices.
  • Proven knowledge of current and legacy cellular communication standards: 5G (NR) and 4G (LTE) with a focus on the physical layer, as well as basic knowledge of UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, etc.
  • Strong fundamentals in Machine Learning and Statistics.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, technical communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience fine-tuning LLMs (e.g., LoRA/PEFT, distillation) and integrating AI solutions into engineering workflows (e.g., RAG, AI agents, MCP, vector databases) from prototype to day-to-day use.
  • Strong research mindset with the ability to implement ideas from AI/ML papers, analyze and improve model performance, and convert novel approaches into working prototypes.
  • Coursework or previous work experience relating to cellular radios (e.g., Integrated Systems for Cellular Radio) and AI/ML (e.g., Deep Learning, NLP).
  • Passionate about solving complex real-world problems in AI/ML and cellular technologies, with a strong understanding of wireless communication concepts.
  • Good experience with Shell-scripting (e.g., bash-shell) and automation (Perl, Python).
