Within the X-Labs organization, we are targeting advanced technological breakthroughs that could be key enablers of the next generation products at Airbus.
By exploration of new air vehicle concepts and application of disruptive technology bricks we are driving a step change in air vehicle performance and allowing us to significantly rethink air vehicle design. These advances are opening up the design space and enabling us to look at new concepts and new markets previously impossible to envisage.

Your Tasks And Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Flight Controls Engineering Intern to join our dynamic flight systems team. In this role, you will gain invaluable hands-on experience designing, testing, and integrating advanced flight control systems for our next-generation aircraft. Mentored by senior engineers, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of impactful projects, applying theoretical aerospace concepts to real-world hardware and software challenges.
- Flight Control Law Development & Simulation: Assist in the design, modeling, and refinement of flight control laws to meet performance and handling requirements.
- Develop FCC dynamic algorithms: Design and optimize dynamic algorithms for the Flight Control Computer (FCC) to ensure reliable aircraft responsiveness.
- Implement control strategies in MATLAB/Simulink: Translate aerodynamic data and control theory into high-fidelity digital models.
- Conduct Software-In-The-Loop (SIL) simulations to validate control architecture stability: Run rigorous tests to analyze system performance and safety margins.
- Hardware: Lead trade studies to evaluate, select, and integrate core flight control hardware for your specific project scope, ensuring seamless communication between sensors, actuators, and the FCC.
Desired Skills And Qualifications
- Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) within Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Language skills: English Fluent, good German skills would be an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Previous project team experience (e.g., Design Build Fly, Formula SAE, university rocketry/UAV teams).
- Familiarity with simulation environments like Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL).
- Exposure to hardware integration, avionics, or basic embedded systems.
- Eagerness to learn and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
