Job description: Carbon Accounting Analyst

Location: Berlin, Germany

Contract Duration: 6 months with the opportunity to extend

Salary: 17€/hour (working hours are restricted by working student limitations)

About Us

Alectro is a carbon footprint calculation software founded in 2019 and is now supporting 150+ clients.

We are a team of climate-engaged individuals working together with the goal of enabling companies to measure their carbon footprint, act to reduce their impact and engage their ecosystem (employees, clients, suppliers) around their climate strategy.

Our platform simplifies data collection and analysis through seamless integrations, ensuring carbon emissions calculations are precise, user-friendly, and cost-effective. Join us in creating a growing community of climate-engaged organisations.

About the role:

We’re looking for a detail-oriented Working Student to support our Operations team. In this role, you will focus on reviewing, cleaning, and preparing client data for use within our carbon accounting assessment.

You’ll play an important role in ensuring that incoming data is complete, accurate, and usable before it enters our systems. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys structured problem-solving, working with data, and communicating clearly with clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Review: Review client financial, asset, and supply chain datasets to ensure completeness, accuracy, and readiness for processing, verifying that submissions meet required content, formatting, and quality standards. Identify missing information, inconsistencies, and data quality issues before data preparation and analysis to support reliable assessment outcomes
  • Support Carbon Assessment Workflows: Support carbon assessment workflows by communicating directly with clients to resolve incomplete or inaccurate submissions. Provide clear guidance on required corrections and escalate complex cases to cross-functional teams when additional expertise is needed.
  • ESG Analysis: Conduct ESG, supply chain, competitor, and asset-related research by analysing sustainability reports, corporate policies, and publicly available ESG disclosures to support client assessments and strategic insights.
  • Process Improvement: Help improve the consistency and quality of internal data processes. Provide feedback on recurring client issues and documentation gaps. Contribute to the development of internal guides and best practices over time.

Qualifications we look for:

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, economics, accounting, technical studies, or a related field.
  • Attention to Detail: You enjoy working with structured data and spotting inconsistencies or missing information. You are highly organised and able to maintain accuracy across repetitive tasks.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written communication skills with the ability to explain issues clearly and professionally to clients and colleagues.
  • Analytical Mindset: Comfortable working through ambiguous datasets and following structured processes to solve problems. Able to apply rules and documentation consistently.
  • Technical Skills: Comfortable working with spreadsheets and productivity tools (e.g. Google Sheets, Excel, Google Workspace). Experience with data formatting or operations tasks is a plus.
  • Agility in Practice: Able to work independently while collaborating closely with a fast-moving startup team. Comfortable taking ownership of tasks and managing priorities.
  • Passion for Sustainability: Curious about climate, ESG, and sustainability topics, with a motivation to contribute to impactful work.
  • Language Proficiency: Native-equivalent level in English. German or additional languages are a plus.

Benefits:

  • Co-working space access
  • Flexibility to work remotely
  • Weekly Brunch in Berlin
  • Monthly Events (e.g. Lunch & Learn, Wellness Afternoons, Team Getaway)
  • Enjoy a full office shutdown over Christmas
  • A culture of autonomy and transparency in a young, agile, and diverse team

Right to Work

We are currently only accepting applications from candidates who have the right to work in Germany and can be located in Berlin.
