Shape the Future of Digital Twin Technology at ZEISS

At ZEISS Corporate Research, we explore breakthrough technologies that shape future generations of ZEISS products. In this role, you will contribute to the creation of high-quality 3D assets that power realistic visualization and simulation experiences. Your work will directly support the development of our next-generation digital twin platform used for research, technology evaluation, robotics applications, and future product concepts.

This position is particularly relevant for students interested in 3D/Technical Art, Environment or Visualization Art, Digital Twin Artist, 3D Generalist, Computer Graphics, Game Art & Technology, Simulation, XR, and Real-Time Rendering careers.

Your Role

As part of our interdisciplinary team, you will research, design, implement, and optimize high-quality 3D assets for visualization, simulation, and digital twin applications:

  • Creating, refining, and maintaining high-quality 3D assets for digital twin applications

  • Optimizing existing models and developing new assets in Blender for real-time visualization and simulation

  • Building clean and efficient geometry, topology, UV layouts, and material setups

  • Creating physically based rendering (PBR) materials and textures for realistic visual appearance

  • Supporting the integration of assets into our visualization and simulation pipeline

  • Collaborating closely with developers, graphics engineers, and researchers to ensure technical compatibility and visual quality

  • Working with robotics and mechatronic models, including URDF-based descriptions

  • Contributing to visual experiments and technology demonstrators used for evaluating future ZEISS products

  • Creating basic rigs, animations, and interactive demonstrations (optional but beneficial)

What we offer

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge digital twin and visualization technologies

  • Direct involvement in research projects that influence future ZEISS products

  • Mentorship from experienced researchers, engineers, and computer graphics experts

  • Work at the intersection of computer graphics, simulation, robotics, rendering, and product innovation

  • Opportunity to continue as a working student for up to two years and/or to write a bachelor’s or master’s thesis

  • Flexible working arrangements with a mix of remote and on-site work

  • Access to state-of-the-art visualization and computing infrastructure

Your Profile

  • Enrolled in a degree program in 3D Design, Digital Media, Media Informatics, Computer Graphics, Visual Computing, Game Technology, Computer Science, Animation, Industrial Design, Virtual Reality, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Content Creation, or a related field

  • Strong interest in Technical Artist workflows, 3D asset creation, 3D modeling, digital twins, visualization, simulation, robotics, game development, or technical product visualization

  • Solid experience with Blender acquired through coursework, personal projects, freelance work, studio work, open-source contributions, or hobby projects

  • Understanding of topology, mesh optimization, UV workflows, material creation, texturing, asset pipelines, and scene organization

  • Experience with physically based rendering (PBR) workflows and modern rendering concepts as well as creating high-quality 3D assets

  • Good visual design skills and strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams

  • Good communication skills in English

Nice to Have

  • Rigging and animation experience

  • Python scripting (Blender) or programming in Python/C++

  • Experience with Unreal Engine or Unity

  • Familiarity with robotics visualization, CAD conversion, product visualization, or simulation environment

  • Knowledge of common 3D asset formats such as glTF, USD, FBX, or URDF

  • Portfolio showcasing relevant work (e.g., ArtStation, Behance, GitHub, or personal website)

Students who have created their own asset libraries, visualization projects, product or robotics visualizations, simulation scenes, game environments, interactive experiences, XR projects, digital twin demonstrations, or have worked in a Technical/3D Artist, Environment Artist, Visualization Artist, or 3D Generalist role are especially encouraged to apply.

Sounds exciting? Then become part of #teamZEISS and help us shape the future! Please provide your complete application documents (CV, transcript of records). Please include links to relevant portfolios, ArtStation profiles, GitHub repositories, demo videos, personal websites, or project showcases if available.
