Join Aqarios to Redefine the Future of Computing!
At Aqarios, we want to change how the world solves hard problems. We use quantum computing to tackle some of the most complex challenges companies face across industries. Join us and you'll work on technology that's still being figured out, in a setup that's flexible and gives you room to own what you do. Ideally you'd be with us in our Munich office, though remote within Germany works too.
Who we are:
Aqarios was founded to close the gap between quantum computing and problems companies actually need solved. Our aim is to make quantum genuinely useful for the hard, complex challenges that come up across many industry domains. We work with large enterprises to do that, sometimes through Luna, our platform, and sometimes through solutions we build for a specific customer. We're a team of around 15 people, spun out of LMU Munich. That means there's real academic depth behind what we do, paired with the day-to-day of shipping software that customers rely on.
What you'd work on:
- Backend services in Python (FastAPI, Celery, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ) that orchestrate complex computation workflows
- A customer-facing web apps in React and TypeScript with interactive visualizations and real-time state
- Cloud infrastructure on Azure, including container orchestration, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code
- Shared libraries, database migrations, and cross-cutting concerns across many microservices
- Automated testing at multiple levels: unit, integration, end-to-end
- Code reviews, pull requests, and a structured engineering workflow from day one
What we're looking for:
- Strong proficiency in Python or any other language where you've built and maintained something professionally beyond coursework
- Comfortable with Git: branches, pull requests, code reviews on a shared codebase
- Understanding of how distributed web applications work: APIs, databases, async patterns, state management, or deployment pipelines
- Enrolled as a student (Werkstudent) in CS, Physics, Maths, or something adjacent. Late Bachelor's or Master's
Depth in at least one area that matters here:
- Backend: async Python, API design, relational databases, message queues, service architecture
- Frontend: React component architecture, TypeScript, data visualization, responsive design, good design sense
- Infrastructure: Docker, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (Azure), infrastructure-as-code
- Testing and quality: test strategy across unit/integration/e2e, observability, reliability
- A candidate who's built one solid thing end-to-end, where they made architectural decisions, hit scaling problems, or maintained it over time, interests us more than broad surface familiarity
- You ask questions when you're unsure and take feedback well
- Based in or near Munich, or elsewhere in Germany if remote
What you get:
- Your work runs in production for industrial customers, not in a sandbox
- A close look at deeptech, right where software engineering meets quantum computing
- Hours that flex around your studies and exam periods
- An office in central Munich and a team that likes actually being there together, with regular events
🚀 Don’t just work - make an impact. Join Aqarios and help us shape the future of computing, one breakthrough at a time!
