Working Student – Customer Success & Operations
20 hrs/week · all genders · Start date: As soon as possible
About Momentum Transfer
Momentum Transfer provides fast, mail-in access to synchrotron X-ray diffraction—no proposals, no scheduling delays, for materials researchers worldwide. We deliver synchrotron-quality data with 200× lab resolution, so our users can develop their materials faster and with a higher degree of certainty.
The Role
We’re looking for a Working Student to support our Customer Success & Operations team. You’ll combine customer communication and operational tasks with a basic technical understanding of X-ray scattering and diffraction.
A key part of your role will be conducting initial 20-minute online conversations with academic customers, typically students or researchers from universities. They will explain what material they would like to measure, and you’ll help determine whether their samples and measurement questions are a good fit for our service. You’ll act as the first point of contact, clarify basic technical questions, and coordinate more detailed questions with our scientific team when needed.
You don’t need to be able to analyze XRD, PDF or SAXS data. However, you should have a good basic understanding of what these techniques measure and be comfortable discussing materials, samples, and scientific questions with researchers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct short initial online meetings with academic customers to understand their samples, research questions, and measurement needs
- Assess whether customer requests are suitable for our measurement services and identify when technical clarification is needed
- Handle customer inquiries via email and coordinate technical questions internally with our scientific team
- Review and approve customer requests; follow up when clarification is needed
- Track sample shipments and prepare customs proforma invoices
- Maintain customer data, help pages, and quotations in our CRM (HubSpot)
- Support events, marketing research, and other team tasks as needed
Your Profile
- Enrolled Bachelor’s or Master’s student in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field
- Basic understanding of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and ideally familiarity with techniques such as Pair Distribution Function (PDF) analysis and/or SAXS
- You do not need to be an expert in data analysis—we’re looking for someone who understands the basic principles and can have a meaningful first conversation with researchers
- Very good German and English skills
- Structured, reliable, and service-oriented working style
- Confident communicating with customers in email and online meetings
- Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility
- Confident with MS Office
- Bonus: customer service experience, CRM knowledge, or experience working in an academic research environment
What We Offer
- Flexible hours (20 hrs/week), compatible with your studies
- Independent work with real responsibility
- The opportunity to combine scientific knowledge with customer-facing work
- Broad insights into a growing deep-tech startup
- International environment
- Direct interaction with researchers and materials scientists worldwide
- Remote option after onboarding
