Beschreibung bereitgestellt von BITA

BITA is a Fintech company with the mission of disrupting the index and systematic investment industry. Through advanced software, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and high-quality data, we empower our clients to develop innovative investment products faster, more flexibly, and at a lower cost. We are a young and dynamic team of more than 60 people located across the world unified by a strong belief that the investment industry is ready for a new challenger.

We are expanding our IT Team in Frankfurt am Main and are looking for a Backend Engineer Intern to join us in our Frankfurt office. This internship is aimed at recent graduates who want to build real, hands-on experience developing backend systems for data-driven financial applications.

As a Backend Engineer Intern, you will work alongside our Back End Development team, contributing to the design, development, and testing of the APIs and services that power our clients' investment products. You will receive close mentorship from senior engineers and the Head of Back End Development, and will have the opportunity to work on real production-facing projects from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Backend Development: Help design, build, and maintain APIs, databases, and services under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Contribute to Data Quality: Assist in validating and processing financial datasets, learning best practices for accuracy and reliability.
  • Testing & Debugging: Write unit tests, help debug issues, and participate in code reviews to build strong engineering habits.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with front-end developers, QA, and product teams to help deliver features end to end.
  • Documentation: Help keep technical documentation for services and processes up to date.
  • Learn & Grow: Take part in mentorship sessions, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing with the backend team, and stay curious about new backend technologies and fintech data practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, completed recently.
  • Experience: No professional experience required; academic coursework, a thesis project, or personal projects involving backend development are a strong plus.
  • Mindset: Strong eagerness to learn, curiosity about fintech and financial data, and comfort asking questions and receiving feedback.

Technical Skills (Required):

  • Python — basic to intermediate knowledge, gained through coursework, personal, or academic projects
  • SQL / relational databases — basic understanding (PostgreSQL is a plus)
  • REST APIs — general knowledge of how they work and are consumed
  • Git / version control — basic working knowledge

Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to FastAPI, Pandas, or other Python frameworks/libraries
  • Basic familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS)
  • Interest in financial markets, indexes, or fintech

What We Offer:

  • Mentorship: Direct, hands-on guidance from senior backend engineers and the Head of Back End Development.
  • Real Impact: Work on live projects that power the products our clients use every day, not just simulated exercises.
  • Global Team: Join an international, dynamic, ambitious team disrupting the indexing and passive investment industry.
  • Learning Opportunities: Hands-on experience with modern backend technologies in a real fintech environment.
  • Growth Path: Strong performers may be considered for an extension or a full-time offer at the end of the internship.
