Job description

At Orion AM we focus on scientific research and the development of Additive Manufacturing technologies. Our AM systems allow aerospace companies, hospitals, research institutes, and service bureaus to print medical- and aerospace-grade polymers with the strength and density of injection-moulded parts. We believe in building responsible and ethical technologies that tangibly better humanity. Our curiosity fuels us to explore, innovate, create, and grow.

We are seeking an Additive Manufacturing Research Assistant to support our projects for a minimum of 6 months. This role begins as a mandatory Internship (Pflichtpraktikum) position for the first 3 months (paid with stipend), with the prospect of transitioning into a paid Internship (Freiwilliges Praktikum) from month 4.

This position gives you the opportunity to deepen your AM knowledge by working with us on actual customer projects, perfecting printing results, and actively improving our processes and machines.

Responsibilities:

  • Support CAD design, modeling and simulation
  • Operate and conduct daily monitoring of Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) machinery
  • Gather data on 3D printing processes and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Conduct routine quality checks
  • Ensure prompt, detailed communication regarding any machine issues
  • Identify and propose best practices for the lab
  • Ensure all machines are maintained in excellent working condition
  • Assist in electronic and mechanical fabrication

You Are:

  • Currently enrolled and working towards a M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar field
  • Already officially registered (Angemeldet) in Berlin. This is a strict requirement.
  • Inquisitive, curious, and highly autonomous
  • Proficient in SolidWorks
  • Experienced in using FFF machines, with a strong foundational understanding of AM
  • A creative problem solver who is excited to suggest design improvements
  • Skilled at multitasking, prioritizing, and communicating
  • Able to handle confidential protocols professionally
  • Fluent in English (our primary office language). German language skills are a plus.

These qualities are important, but we encourage you to apply even if you feel you do not meet every single one.
