Job description

About us

The British Embassy and the Consulates-General in Germany are part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We have several internships available throughout 2026-2027, based at one of the Germany Network’s three locations at the British Embassy in Berlin and the Consulates-General in Munich and Düsseldorf.

We aim to be a diverse and inclusive employer, welcoming to people of all backgrounds. The senior leadership is committed to ensuring that we are a supportive and fair place to work. The Germany Network values are kindness, inclusivity, honesty, professionalism and responsibility. These values guide how we work on a daily basis, and all staff must adhere to them.

About the Role

During your internship, you will have the chance to work with colleagues across the whole team and become actively involved in a variety of areas and issues through analytical, organisational, communication and administrative tasks. You will have a manager to support you throughout your internship and you will gain insights and first-hand experience supporting international work across your assigned role.

In addition to those listed above, you might find yourself:

  • Researching policy for a strategy paper or briefing for a Minister or Ambassador;
  • Conducting market research on specific sectors and gathering feedback from businesses through a mixture of desk research and attending trade fairs / conferences;
  • Planning and helping to deliver events, receptions and VIP visit programmes;
  • Researching and drafting communications e.g. for articles, interviews, speeches and social media.

You’ll work in one of the following teams:

  • Foreign, Security and Development Team (Berlin): The team supports UK priorities in Germany focussing on Security and Development (strong political interest plus solid research and communication skills needed).
  • Events and Organisation (Berlin and Dusseldorf): The role places you at the heart of the Germany Network, supporting high‑level engagement, travel, and events while working across the Embassy or the Consulate-General on fast‑paced diplomatic priorities and contributing to the Ambassador’s/Deputy Head of Mission’s and the Consulate-General’s key initiatives.
  • Economic, Financial and Social Policy Team (Berlin): The internship supports the UK–Germany economic relationship through research, reporting, meetings, as well as event and admin support, requiring an interest in economic policy and the intersection of economics and international relations.
  • Business and Trade (DBT) (Berlin and Munich): Our mission at DBT is to boost UK–Germany trade and investment by improving market access for businesses in ways that drive growth, support jobs, and advance wider goals such as economic security, inclusion, and climate action.
  • Climate, Energy and Global Issues team (Berlin): The role supports UK–Germany cooperation on climate, energy, and global issues by analysing partnership opportunities, assisting with events, visits, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Science and Technology (Berlin): The role supports UK-Germany collaboration in science, technology and innovation by tracking German developments, communicating UK strengths, and assisting the Science & Technology team with projects, events, visits and wider diplomatic engagement across fields from AI to climate and health.
  • Communications Team (Berlin): Our team develops creative communication campaigns which help the work of the embassy reach the right audiences at the right moment. We develop social media content, build networks with journalists and run events.

Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity!
