Our annual summit convenes select, high level participants for candid exchanges on equal terms and in interactive formats. Participants include Heads of State and Government, Ministers, and CEOs from more than 100 countries.

Program and Policy Research Intern

(40 hrs./week, on-site in Berlin, starting on July 1, 2026, for four months)


and help shape the future by bringing your expertise and passion to ESMT.


How you will make a difference

This role offers direct exposure to the development of a high-level international summit at the intersection of business and geopolitics, with hands-on involvement in research, program preparation. It is particularly well suited to candidates pursuing careers in international public policy, global business and the intersection between the two.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of the overall program of the BGD annual summitin close cooperation with the Program and Speaker Managers
  • Monitor and summarise relevant economic trends, policy announcements, and geopolitical developments to inform session preparation.
  • Conduct structured background research on ministers, CEOs, heads of government, and institutional leaders to support session development
  • Draft and maintain updated, ready-to-send briefing materials for moderators and speakers
  • Assist in maintaining and updating tracking databases and documents for invited speakers.
  • Assist in the development of the final program by accurately updating and maintaining the working program documents and assisting in the editing process of the digital and printed programs.
  • Provide day-to-day operational, research, and writing support to the Program team as required.


What makes you a great fit

  • Ongoing or completed Master’s studies in political science, international relations, economics, public policy, or a related field. Or a strong final-year Bachelor’s student with relevant experience
  • First work experience in international organisations, political foundations, think tanks, consultancies, or comparable policy-oriented environments. Experience working directly with or in close proximity to senior political or business leadership is an asset.
  • Experience working with structured tracking systems or databases is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct structured research and synthesise complex material clearly
  • Excellent written English (German not necessary but is an advantage)
  • Demonstrated interest in the intersection of business and politics.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality output under tight timelines
  • Willingness to work full-time on-site in Berlin for the full internship period
